New Jersey Bill A 2950 Substantially Modified

New Jersey Sweepstakes Bill A 2950 Significantly Modified

NJ A 2950, a New Jersey Assembly Omnibus Sweepstakes Bill discussed in previous Bulletins, was significantly amended on the floor of the Assembly at the end of June.  The bill did not however, come up for a final vote on the floor, and the legislature has adjourned for several months.  PMA has a copy of the bill as amended for those interested, and a review thereof indicates that many of the concerns previously voiced by PMA have been addressed.  If you wish more information, please e-mail me at ekabak@pmalink.org or call 212-420-1100 ext. 236.

We will continue to report on the status of this bill.

PMA Law Conference Open for Business Nov 15

Who’s in Control Now: Navigating Tumultous Market Change

We are looking forward to the 29th PMA Marketing Law Conference. It’s going to be held at the  Downtown Marriott, Chicago Illinois November 15-16, 2007 and features 60-70 major brand and outside counsel speakers, keynotes from Lydia Parnes, Director, Bureau of Consumer Protection, FTC, Brett  Yormark,Pres and CEO of NETS Sports and Entertainment, a host of regulators, 27 key sessions, an 800-1000 page workbook reference takeaway, a CD ROM law and forms guide, and the best networking in the industry.  I view it as Indispensable, exuberant, and packed with new materials and learning for all, from the most experienced to the beginning practitioner, marketers and suppliers.

Our conference this year takes note of the many changes in the legal and business landscape, including the emerging new doctrines on user generated content, as well as the ever-evolving mobile marketing  environment and new approaches to many other areas. We are also excited to have some regulators who may challenge the audience and the assumptions they hold as well. And we tailored this conference to give some very practical advice including negotiating sessions and the like.

The conference will focus razor-sharp on the vast changes occurring in the legal and business networks governing marketing and advertising in the US and abroad.  The broadest and deepest coverage of the subject! And one that we hope translates the role we play  in bringing  strong educational value to our members and the  public.

Co-chairs for the Conference are Jeffrey Gewirtz, Sr. VP and General Counsel, NETS Basketball, Jeffrey Greenbaum,Partner, Frankfurt, Kurnit Klein &Selz, Tricia Lin, Assoc. General Counsel, Yahoo! and Joanna Neidermeyer, Counsel, The Procter and Gamble Company.
